  • WHO & WHAT

Join us for an incredible leadership trip for current high school students 9th-12th grades to Glorieta, New Mexico, May 24-28, 2021. Cost is $500 per person and includes five days of food and lodging plus transportation to New Mexico. (It does not include two meals or snacks on the road plus a small amount of spending money for the camp store at Glorieta.)

This is the third time Faith Academy has partnered with Wilderness Trek which is a faith-based wilderness experience ministry. They are a backcountry guide service dedicated to leading people spiritually and physically through wilderness areas. Since 1976 they have guided over 30,000 teens and adults to become better disciples and leaders through multi-day backcountry experiences.

This trip will include one night of overnight camping and the rest will be stayed in cabin with heat & AC at Glorieta Camp. Some of the activities include white water rafting, repelling, hiking, team building games, bible studies, alone time with God and great times of fellowship and worship.(See schedule below.)

  • COVID

All participants will be adhering to the Faith Academy Covid Protocols when in public or around non-Faith Academy persons: 1) mask wearing, 2) social distancing, 3) hand washing. We will provide a Covid Pre-check 10 days before the trip to make sure all who are going are healthy and symptom free. Wilderness Trek has their own set of Covid Protocols in order to ensure safety of campers.

  • WHAT TO BRING

We will be staying indoors for all nights except for the final night in which we will be in tents or hammocks. The trip will take place at the Glorieta Camp outside of Santa Fe, NM, which is near the Santa Fe National Forest, elevation can range from 7,200 ft to 13,000 ft. The air is generally dry and crisp but there can be a lot of variation of weather, even in the summer. Temperatures can range from 30’s overnight (depending upon elevation of campsite) to the low 90’s mid-day. Rain comes and goes frequently in the summer (typically starting in July), so a rain jacket is necessary. We will be hiking in rocky terrain, so boots with ankle support are encouraged. Our address will be Wilderness Trek, 11 NM-50, Glorieta, NM 87535

    Clothes

    1. T-shirts – Light colored t-shirts are nice as they retain less heat. Bring one for every day or less if you desire. (it is best to only take 2 on trail) Cotton t-shirts are not recommended but rather a blend with some polyester that will wick moisture.
    2. Shorts – Bring at least one or two pairs that are longer for wearing a harness. (2 pairs on trail; at least one could be used for swimming)
    3. Socks – Wool/non-cotton! (3 pairs is a good number for a week)
    4. Rain Gear – A rain jacket is necessary and rain pants are nice to have! (we do provide rain ponchos if they are needed)
    5. Underwear (only you know what you need for this!)
    6. Bandana(s) – Great for sun protection and countless other things
    7. Swimsuit – Optional (Often times we hike and swim in the same clothes.) Be modest please.
    8. Boots – The area is rocky, so broken in high top boots are preferred. Durable running shoes are okay. A thick sole will keep your feet more comfortable. Waterproof footwear is preferred.
    9. Sandals or other lightweight shoes can be worn around the campsite but not for hiking.
    10. Lightweight jacket or long-sleeved shirt – fleece is nice for cold nights/mornings.
A warmer jacket/puffy — bring one just in case the temperatures are lower than anticipated, we can assess the need for it before we hit the trail (sometimes it snows unexpectedly!)
    11. Stocking cap/beanie – Helps with cold nights – if you get cold easily
    12. Long Pants – One pair is enough. Don’t bring jeans or heavy cotton. Lightweight synthetic fabrics are best. No cotton if possible.
    13. Base Layer – Synthetic long underwear
    14. Thoughts on clothing – When you return from the outdoors it’s nice to put on your favorite clothes. All clothes should be lightweight and able to dry quickly. No cotton if possible. We recommend that you do not bring jeans for the trail portion of your trip

    Other Gear

    1. Water Bottles – Two or Three water bottles carrying about 1 L each OR Hydration System – Camelbak style water bladder and hose (2 L) (Can be found at Wal-mart’s camping section)
    2. Toiletries- Toothbrush, toothpaste, (shampoo, towel, etc. For the cabin only)
    3. Bedding – Pillow, twins sheets or blanket for indoor sleeping on bunk beds. Or bring a small but warm sleeping bag for in the cabin and camping. Wilderness Trek will provide sleeping bags and foam pads as well (Again, only one night is on the trail and the rest are in a heated cabin on bunk beds)
